Brands last weekend

Another packed grid of 33 cars for a standing start 40 minute race saw the Porsche 968, entered under Class 3 of the Dunlop Porsche Cup series set off for a late afternoon race on Sunday.

In good dry weather quali saw me mid grid at P19 in the morning running v high 50s per lap but that position was lost by turn one as the pack headed in front of a small crowd down the hill. Having watched a couple of pile ups there on previous races, my tactical plan was to let people through if need be and then grab these places back in the first few laps which worked well.

With lower tyre pressures compared with quali by some 4/5psi grip levels were much better too and the race began in earnest. Having got to P16 by the time the pit window opened I held off til an incident caused the safety car to come out so I dived into the pits for the compulsory stop and rejoined after a swift change to snake around for a few laps before the green flags came out. From then on I pushed and gained a few more places to end up P13, slightly disappointed that I went in one lap too early re the safety car and could have been top 10 behind a gaggle of M3's, but I got a class win and another trophy for the study.

The car went well, my laps times lowered to 58s dead and I was consistent within a second lap after lap.

Next race is Anglesey after a summer break before Donington and Snetterton again.
